ITARC 2015 will discuss various methods, systems and experiences to help IT architects create and sustain value on all levels of the profession.

This years ITARC will consist of one day of keynotes and presentations in addition to a second day of workshops.

Even-André Karlsson presented ATAM (Architecture Tradeoff Assessment Method) a method for evaluation of architectures. ATAM was developed by Software Engineering Instititute (SEI) for Department of Defence, as well as our experience using this method. One of the main findings is that ATAM is known as a technique, but our impression was that the full potential of ATAM was not utilized in most organizations. The main benefit of ATAM in our view is that it creates a common understanding of the architecture, which at an early stage in the project is quite abstract, and can hardly be captured in a single document. The traditional review of the architecture document by different experts, e.g. security, infrastructure, information, etc. does not give the benefits of the full ATAM process. This was also the context in which ATAM was developed for that US DoD, i.e. their contractors had normal architecture boards and reviews, but they still failed. This aspect of the ATAM process is often overlooked.
